Bandung, 11 May 2018 – PT FWD Life Indonesia (FWD Life), pioneer of digital-based life insurance in Indonesia, has announced its collaboration with Special Olympics Indonesia (SOIna) on 18 April 2018. As the first implementation of the partnership between FWD Life and SOIna, FWD Life holds its first roadshow in Bandung to run the Unified Schools and Athlete Leadership program. One of the educational topics taught is financial literacy for people with intellectual disabilities. In addition to that, FWD Life works together with PERSIB Bandung to provide tips in maintaining fitness, training, and healthy lifestyle.
Partnership between FWD Life and SOIna is part of the long-term commitment through corporate social responsibility program by FWD Group in seven countries, including Indonesia. Through this collaboration, FWD Life supports two main programs of Special Olympics, Unified Schools and Athlete Leadership programs in all FWD Life markets for three years.
In Indonesia, Unified Schools program will aim to gather 793 children in attempt to eliminate negative perception, to bring inclusive messages as well as to gain mutual respect towards people with intellectual disabilities. This program will gather six schools and communities specialised for both children with or without intellectual disabilities.
For the next three years, Athlete Leadership program in Indonesia will annually train 25 athletes with intellectual disabilities to have the opportunity to be a professional and to be more involved in the society. This program is supported by approximately 25 mentors as well as FWD Life employees who will provide financial literacy as one of the topics in the training.
Vice President FWD Life, Rudi Kamdani stated in his welcoming speech, “This Bandung Roadshow is the beginning of FWD Life’s commitment to help leading a positive change by creating social inclusion through equal opportunity advocacy for people with disabilities, starting from active participation of employees as well as agents of FWD Life in Bandung. Through this event, FWD Life hopes to have an active role in empowering people with disabilities to be more confident, independent, and professionally active in Indonesia’s society.”
Secretary General of Central Board Special Olympics Indonesia Dr. Iskandar Adisaputra revealed, “Today, total of people with intellectual disabilities in Indonesia is approximately 2.75 percent of 280 million total population or equivalent with 7.7 million people. With these numbers, people with intellectual disabilities are facing some obstacles in social acceptance especially in receiving proper education, healthcare, and job. This roadshow event is good for SOIna’s athletes, so they can be more professional and independent according to their highest potential. Therefore, we are glad and grateful for FWD Life and their commitment to put more attention and long-term support for people with intellectual disabilities.”
The Bandung Roadshow will run for four days, from 10 to 13 May 2018, at the marketing office of FWD Life Bandung and will be attended daily by approximately 100 participants, including athletes, mentors, employees, and agents of FWD Life. This year, FWD Life and SOIna will conduct roadshows in four other cities in Indonesia, one of them is Semarang in July 2018.
