Jakarta, 28 March 2018 – PT FWD Life Indonesia (“FWD Life”), a pioneer of digital life insurance in Indonesia, will send Fedi Fianto as the first Indonesian runner to participate in this year’s FWD North Pole Marathon®, also known as the World's Coolest Marathon®.
The marathon sees runners from around the world to race at the Geographic North Pole in extreme sub-zero temperatures on 9 April 2018. FWD’s second year of support for the North Pole Marathon is expected to inspire unity across the region through #FWDTeamAsia. This year, #FWDTeamAsia consists of 11 runners from across the region from Vietnam, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan, The Philippines, and Indonesia.
FWD Life Vice President Director, Rudi Kamdani said, “FWD Life wants to ignite our customers’ life passions by providing our support, and protection that suits their lifestyle, even for extremes. Our sponsored runner representing Indonesia, Fedi Fianto, can inspire Indonesian people to dare to take on challenges knowing FWD Life has their back.”
Fedi Fianto is an Indonesian runner who has extensive experience in participating in endurance sports, from marathons, triathlons, obstacle racing, as well as extreme sports from rock climbing to mountaineering. His eagerness to always take on the new challenges and opportunities stood out to FWD when they decided to sponsor him in the marathon.
Fedi expressed his enthusiasm to participate at the world’s coolest marathon. “I feel honoured to be chosen as one of the #FWDTeamAsia in the FWD North Pole Marathon® 2018. With my previous experience in the extreme sports, such as conquering Mount Ama Dablam in Nepal with temperature -40 Celsius degrees, I hope my optimistism can strengthen the whole team to succeed together in this opportunity of a lifetime. I will also need your support and prayers so that I can successfully finish the marathon and make Indonesia proud.”
FWD Life will support and protect Fedi prior and during the event, up until Fedi returns to Indonesia. Fedi will be covered by FWD LooP, life insurance with complete protection including health benefits and critical illness, as well as coverage for extreme sports. In addition, FWD Life support Fedi with his training and preparations prior in partnership with Indonesia Sports Medical Centre (ISMC), to get the best of his training and health.
Sports Medicine Specialist of Indonesia Sports Medical Centre, dr. A. Andi Kurniawan Sp.KO. explains that it requires specialised training to participate in extreme marathon events. “To be able to participate in extreme marathon events such as FWD North Pole Marathon, runners need to be in very good condition and well-trained for the event. We have done medical assessment to provide Fedi with the best recommendation for his training to maintain his stamina and build his strength and conditioning so that he can run in the snowy terrain in North Pole Marathon. Fedi will also need to take care of his nutrition, with a high protein and low-fat diet. We are confident that he will be able to finish this marathon with all the physical and mental preparation work he has done.”
FWD Life encourages Indonesians to support to Fedi. “Riding on this momentum, we also collaborate with Kitabisa.com to create a Run for Charity donation program. With Fedi Fianto’s participation, we will be raising funds with donation target of Rp 42 million, to equate to the 42 km Fedi will run at the FWD North Pole Marathon® 2018. The money will be donated to Special Olympics Indonesia, an organisation engaging people with intellectual disabilities. We hope that this social initiative can move Indonesians to support Fedi as well as people in Special Olympics Indonesia to record new achievements in sport,” added Rudi.
Anyone would like to join this charity program can visit https://kitabisa.com/specialolympics and insert the amount they want to donate. This donation program will start from 28 March 2018 and close at 29 April 2018.
