Schroder Indonesia Intermediary Business Executive Vice President, Bonny Iriawan added that a number of factors have contributed to driving up the Indonesian market’s condition, which shows a positive trend. Some of the factors are the conducive global stock market’s conditions and Indonesia’s macro-economic fundamentals, especially the increase in trade surpluses, curtailing current account deficits, and rising fiscal income. “Plus, Indonesia has just received investment grade ratings from S&P and the government is aggressively building infrastructure,” said Bonny.
All the positive factors prompted foreign inflows, catapulting the Jakarta Composite Index (JCI) 11.5% since early 2017 (year-to-date). However, Bonny would like to remind investors to be cautious of other factors, such as shifts in the national political condition, fiscal and monetary stimulus constraints and U.S.’ and China’s governments’ policies. Even in light of all this, investors are still highly enjoy a return from the capital gain in Indonesia’s capital market. Bonny explained, that currently gains in the Composite Index on the Exchange remain lower compared to the Indexes on other bourses in other countries such as South Korea, Singapore, Hong Kong, the Philippines, and India. “There is, of course, a possibility of an upside of share prices on the Indonesian Exchange,” Bonny concluded.
